There are three primary leadership teams which work together to oversee the general direction, day-to-day operations, and major decisions of University Covenant Church: Elder Team, Management Team, and Ministry Directors. For a copy of our document outlining governing structure, click here.

Elders are lay leaders elected by the congregation to serve three-year terms as the spiritual (and legal) leaders of the church. The Senior Pastor and one to two ministry staff members also serve as Elders. The team consists of eight to twelve members total. It is the final decision-making body for the church, though it often seeks to delegate decision-making authority to the other individuals and teams listed below. (Two decision-making exceptions are the calling of ordained pastoral staff and buying or selling church property, which require congregational approval.)

Beginning this month, we will be providing brief monthly reports of Elder Team meetings through the all-church email, on the Elder web page, and at the Info Center. We hope this will help keep everyone aware of the issues and actitivies being discussed related to the mission and ministry of UCC.

During this summer, we have focused primarily on initiating the congregation-wide Listening Initiative. If you are in a small group we encourage you to contact Dan Pendergrass at ElderTeam@ucov.com to schedule a meeting with members of the Elder Team.

We are also reading the book, The Church of Irresistible Influence, by Robert Lewis. We invite you to read the book and share your perspectives with us. A discussion of this book, and its implications to UCC, will be a major part of the Elder Team’s fall retreat.

Finally, we are continuing to discuss and enact ways to improve communications, visibility, and transparency of actions being contemplated and planned by UCC Ministry Directors and Elder Team.

The Management Team oversees the day-to-day operational functions of UCC, and is led by the Executive Pastor. Currently, this team has representation from the following functional areas:
